At 52, starting a blog was not on my bingo card.
If you’d asked me ten years ago what I’d be doing in my fifties, I probably would have said something ambitious. Traveling the world. Becoming a yoga person. Finally learning what half the buttons on my TV remote do.
Instead I’m navigating menopause, watching Bravo like it’s a research project, following true crime trials like they’re my second job, and wondering if it’s too late to become a rocket scientist.
For the record, I still haven’t ruled it out.
There was no lightning bolt moment for this blog. No vision board. No life coach. I just realized there were conversations I wish someone had been having years ago.
My mother never talked about menopause.
Not the hot flashes.
Not the brain fog.
Not the moment your brain deletes a word mid sentence while you’re staring directly at the object you’re trying to name.
Not walking into a room and forgetting why you’re there. Twice. In the same hour.
Turns out a lot of women were going through the same thing and just weren’t saying it out loud either.
This is for anyone in the general vicinity of menopause, whether you’re deep in it, bracing for it, or just confused about why you cried during a car commercial last week.
So I decided to.
This is a place to talk about menopause without whispering, fitness without pretending we love burpees, and life after 50 without acting like we’ve gone invisible. We’ll also get into decorating, building our dream home in Wyoming, Bravo drama, and whatever true crime case currently has me convinced I’d make an excellent juror, despite having already formed seventeen opinions before opening statements.
Here’s what I’ve learned at this stage. You still feel 25 inside. Your knees have filed a formal complaint about that.
My body keeps reminding me I’m not as young as I think I am. I’m still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up anyway.
Maybe that’s the real surprise of your fifties. You don’t have it figured out. You’re just more comfortable saying so.
So welcome. Grab a coffee, or a tropical mango spritzer. Let’s figure this out together.
